Spring has sprung ! We are officially in Spring now and the weather is slow getting better day by day. It's been great to see more bikes starting to get out and about again. How good was Farther's day ? The weather was just perfect and plenty of people made the most if it by getting out on their bikes and soaking up the sunshine. A perfect gift for Dad, great weather for doing whatever he wanted with his loved one's. Introducing the all new Milwaukee Eight !
Tuesday the 23rd of August saw the unveiling of the all new Milwaukee Eight engine, the first new engine from Harley-Davidson in sixteen years. This new power plant will be fitted to all new Touring models for the 2017 model range. This ground up new engine has been years in the making and Harley engineers have done a fantastic job of producing a product to power their motorcycles into the future. Hi Everyone !
WOW what a busy month August was. We attended the World Wide Harley Dealer meeting in Boston USA. This time I decided to invite Richard Evan's along one of our longest serving and most dedicated employees. Richard is one of the biggest Harley fan's I know so I thought it fitting to reward him with something I'm sure he will never forget. This years meeting didn't disappoint with the unveiling of Harley's first new engine in 16 years - the all new "Milwaukee Eight" to be fitted to all Touring model's in the 2017 lineup.The show was attended by dealers from all over the world and had all the new bikes and parts and accessories Harley have been busy working on for the last few years. These meetings are really fabulous to get up to speed with all the latest product information and technical forums. New 2017 models will start rolling into Great Southern Motorcycles over the next few months with the new engined Tourers landing in November.

Dale has always been around bikes in some form or another especially with family enthusiasts it was only a matter of time before the passion rubbed off on him as well, he has a passion for all things 2 (and 4) wheels and has ridden all different styles of bikes from MX to street to quads, new models and old including some classics like CZ, Norton and BSA’s! Dale brings a wide range of skills and experiences to our business being in retail for around 20 years and management for 16 years and will bring many new and exciting aspects to the Great Southern Motorcycles.
Team Polaris Racing news Rally Foes Crocker and Evans go Wheel to Wheel Again
Four times Australian Rally Champion Simon Evans is a hard charger and had his first taste of Side X Side stadium action at the 3rd round of the SXS Australian Championship last month. Simon signed up for a one-off drive for his mate David Brown of Brown Davis, (Australia’s foremost 4x4 accessory maker and race car roll-cage manufacturer). With David unable to race due to an overseas commitment, Simon jumped in to take the controls of the Brown Davis Yamaha YXR1000R development vehicle.
“I had an absolute ball at the last round but it was so frustrating to get hosed off the line time and time again by the Polaris RZR Turbos. They really have some stick” said Simon. “One of the Polaris guys walked past me in the pit area and asked if I was having fun. I let him know how much fun it was but also how much I needed a Turbo”. That Polaris guy was Simon Gloyne, Polaris Race Team Manager. “He took me seriously we had another chat a few days later”.
Evans will now compete in a Polaris at round 4 in Albury on August 20-21 and again at the 6th and final round at Ballarat on October 29-30. Unfortunately the 5th round at Shepparton on September 10-11 clashes with his pursuit of a fifth Australian Rally Championship. He is currently lying in 2nd place with two ARC rounds to go.
Cody Crocker, number one Polaris team driver and winner of the third round, has welcomed Evans entry into the series in a competitive vehicle. “The SXS Championship is on the map. It’s great fun for the drivers and the stadium circuits provide exceptional spectating”. Himself a three-time Australian Rally Champion and four time Asia-Pacific Champion, Cody added this, “Having my old sparring partner in the series shows the credibility of this new series for racers, for the media, for sponsors and going wheel to wheel (rally being against the stop watch), is really where it is at”.
The test will be when these two champions are going into turn one and they are side by side literally. It could get messy.
